The Clarke County Education Foundation (CCEF) is proud to again award all third-grade students in Clarke County with their very own dictionary this year. The dictionaries were paid for by an endowment from funds raised under the leadership of John Friant, Sr.
The John R. Friant Dictionary Project came to fruition as a collaborative effort between the CCEF, the family of John Friant, Sr., the Clarke County Library Council, and the Clarke County Public Schools in 2004. As of today, CCEF has awarded over 2,600 dictionaries to 3rd grade students over the last 14 years! This year, 155 dictionaries were awarded to students at Boyce Elementary, DG Cooley Elementary, Powhatan, and Keystone Baptist.
The dictionary is an essential tool for a quality education. The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners. Third grade is the dividing line between learning to read, and reading to learn! Literacy is the key to success!
Established in 1991, the Clarke County Education Foundation is an independent public charity 501(c)(3) corporation that is dedicated to promoting, expanding, and augmenting the educational opportunities for students and staff in the Clarke County Public Schools, by generating private support and involvement to enhance these publicly maintained services.
