About Dr. Eric J. Myer
Born July 3, 1936, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Dr. Eric J. Myer earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1960. A lifelong horseman and passionate animal advocate, Eric founded Roseville Veterinary Clinic in Boyce, VA, in 1967 and later expanded with Plaza Pet Clinic in 1993. In retirement, Eric (and Martha) traveled with veterinarians on Heifer International mission trips to Honduras and Tanzania, where they provided veterinary care and learned how raising animals improved families’ food security and sustained village communities. Eric’s dedication to animal health and the equestrian community was matched only by his devotion to his family. Over the years, Eric held leadership roles in numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Boyce Volunteer Fire Company, the Clarke County Equine Alliance, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, the Masters of Fox Hounds Association, and many local community groups. Known for his boundless energy, deep compassion, and commitment to service, Eric left an enduring mark on Clarke County and beyond.
About Martha Welch Myer
Born in Geneseo, New York, in 1938, Martha Welch Myer graduated as valedictorian of her high school class before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cornell’s School of Nursing in 1961. She worked in hospital care, social services, home health, and geriatric care, and founded Care Connections, a successful geriatric care management business. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Martha served Clarke County as a School Board member and chairperson for 11 years, led the capital campaign for the Clarke County Senior Living Center, served as the first female chair of the WVPT Board of Directors, and volunteered for numerous charitable efforts. Her unwavering commitment to community service, faith, and family touched countless lives.
“The Myers’ legacy is one of care—care for people, care for animals, and care for the Clarke County community they loved so deeply,” said Beth Williams, Executive Director of the Clarke County Education Foundation. “This scholarship will not only honor their remarkable lives but also inspire students to follow in their footsteps by serving others through healthcare and veterinary careers.”
