Why Early Literacy Matters

The first five years of a child’s life are an extraordinary time for learning and development. Reading together from an early age helps children develop language, imagination, listening skills, and a strong foundation for future academic success.

Having books in the home also encourages family bonding and creates opportunities for meaningful interactions between children and caregivers.

By providing books directly to families, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library helps ensure that every child has an opportunity to experience the magic of reading, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.

Inspired by Dolly. Made Possible by Our Community.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library began in 1995 in Sevier County, Tennessee, where Dolly grew up. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly dreamed of giving children something that could change their lives: books of their very own.

What began as a small program in her hometown has grown into an international literacy initiative, delivering millions of books to children around the world.

Now, thanks to the generosity of our Clarke County community, we are bringing that same dream to our youngest readers.

Through this partnership, the Clarke County Education Foundation is helping ensure that children in our community have access to books, opportunities to learn, and the encouragement to dream big.

We Did It, Clarke County!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have reached our $50,000 fundraising goal!

This milestone means we have secured funding to provide five years of books for Clarke County’s youngest readers through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

We are incredibly grateful to the individuals, families, businesses, and community partners who helped turn this dream into a reality.

But the story doesn’t end here!

Every additional dollar donated helps us sustain this program even longer, ensuring that future generations of Clarke County children can experience the magic of receiving a new book in the mail each month.

For just $31.20, you can provide an entire year of books for one child!

Your continued generosity helps us build home libraries, inspire a lifelong love of reading, and create brighter futures for children throughout our community.
