The Clarke County Education Foundation was proud to present a grant for $5,000 to Clarke County Public Schools to assist in bringing world renowned author, Gordon Korman to Clarke County Public Schools April 4 & 5, 2022.
This year at Johnson-Williams Middle School, the school has participated in a One Book, One School reading program in which the entire school read the same book together. The book chosen was Gordon Kormon’s book, Restart. Each class worked together and participated in activities during their Cougar Focus class.
Gordon Korman is a Canadian-American author was has published 99 children and young adult books. Korman has sold more than 28 million books over a career spanning four decades and has appeared at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list. Korman loves to connect with middle school learners especially, as he wrote his first published book in the 7th grade for a class project.
Through this funding, Korman was able to visit the 3rd-5th graders at both Boyce Elementary and DG Cooley Elementary Schools on Monday, and presented to the entire school at Johnson-Williams Middle School on Tuesday. In addition, he was able to have a small group writing workshop with the GRIPS students at J-WMS and lunch with 20 students who won entrance through a school essay contest.
