Berryville, VA — October 21, 2025 — The Clarke County Education Foundation (CCEF), in partnership with the Clarke County Litter Committee (LC), proudly announces the launch of the Clarke County Litter Committee Scholarship.

This new award supports graduating Clarke County High School (CCHS) seniors who plan to pursue higher education in Environmental Science or related disciplines and emphasizes hands-on community stewardship.

The scholarship not only promotes academic excellence but also inspires students to take direct action in their community. Each recipient will organize and lead a community litter clean-up project, volunteer at least 10 hours in environmental initiatives, and share their experience through a brief presentation highlighting their project’s impact and community engagement. The Litter Committee will provide guidance, supplies, and limited support to assist with project coordination if requested.

About the Clarke County Litter Committee

The Clarke County Litter Committee is a seven-member volunteer group appointed by the Board of Supervisors to raise public awareness, discourage littering, and promote recycling. Its mission is to educate, inspire, and empower the community to improve the environment through beautification and litter prevention.

Current members include: Christi McMullen (Chair), Tom Bauhan (Vice Chair), John Keim, Mary Martin, Sarah Lobo, Jennifer Summers, and Douglas Shaffer, who serves as the Board of Supervisors representative.

The committee meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the second-floor meeting space of the Berryville–Clarke County Government Center, located at 101 Chalmers Court in Berryville. Meetings are open to the public, and community members are encouraged to participate.
